Modern Comedian: Mitch Was a Writer

Scott Moran has a new series on Youtube called Modern Comedian. The films are small documentaries that each focus on one comedian and talk about their creative process. They only run about 10 minutes long, but I find them fascinating. Ben Kronberg is the subject of the second video but he also provides the music for the series. You should watch all four of the movies, but it’s the fourth video that I really wanted to talk about.

Mitch Hedberg was an amazing comedian. Lynn Shawcroft was married to him for the last 6 years of his life. This video is her talking about Mitch and his creative process. I’m biased because I did really like Mitch’s comedy, but I couldn’t look away from this video. If you are a fan of Mitch, make sure you check it out.

It takes a special kind of asshole to laugh at that joke.

I’m drawn to cringe comedy, the jokes so offensive people try not to laugh at. I can’t help it; I’m not right in the head. For about the past year I have been fascinated to the stand up comedy of Anthony Jeselnik. The title for this post is one of his lines after a particularly brutal joke. Apparently I am a special kind of asshole. Anyway, Anthony just released a comedy CD titled Shakespeare and it is available through Amazon’s MP3 service or through Itunes. I can’t recommend it enough. But incase you aren’t sure that his style isn’t for you, check out the sample below and see for yourself.
