Axe Cop Toys

Axe Cop is the franchise that won’t quit.  What started as a personal comic for friends and family became a popular webcomic, which was then published by Darkhorse comics, and is becoming a cartoon in July.  Now Axe Cop is getting its own toyline from Mezco toys.  It’s a genius move, because the Axe Cop stories are filled with crazy looking heroes and villains.  When a comic has vampire werewolf ninjas from the moon, you know you have a potential toy line.

The action figure line will consist of three 4” figures and a bunch of accessories.  Obviously the first figure in the line is Axe Cop.  An Axe Cop figure really only needs to be packaged with one thing, an axe.  Mezco is being awesome though and Axe Cop comes with an axe, a poopsucker gun, Uni Baby, and a lemon grenade.  Avocado Soldier comes with a flute, machine gun, and a removable unicorn horn.  Dr Doo Doo comes with a Doo Doo soldier, stands, and a sword.

If you’d prefer your Avocado Soldier in plush form, you can do that too.  The 8” plush doesn’t come with as many extras as the action figure version but is probably much nicer to hug.  That’s if you want to hug a flute playing cop who briefly was a dinosaur before being transformed into a giant avocado.

The real star of the toy line is going to be Wexer.  This 12” plush T-Rex is wearing sunglasses and has machineguns for hands.  I can see people who have no idea who Axe Cop is still buying this just because of how awesome it is.  The 4” Axe Cop would look pretty good riding on it too.  I can already see him stomping on Doo Doo Soldiers.

Axe Cop Trailer

Recently at Wonder Con the ADHD team debuted their trailer for the Axe Cop cartoon on Fox.  If you are somehow out of the loop on the Axe Cop goodness, here is a brief overview.  Back in 09 comic artist Ethan Nicolle was visiting his family and was playing with his 5 year old step brother.  Ethan drew 4 comic strips detailing the events of game they played and then introduced the internet to his brother’s imagination.  When those first strips began getting popular Ethan knew they needed to continue the story.  Malachai is responsible for the ideas and plots while Ethan provides the art and everything else needed to put the strips together.

Axe Cop took off from there.  It went from being a web comic, to getting published by Dark Horse, to getting motion comics, and now it is going to be a cartoon on Fox. We won’t actually see full episodes until July 27th, but the trailer already confirms that it will still contain the randomness that makes Axe Cop so much fun.

Bearmageddon

I know it is supposed to be Hangover Thursday, but I’m skipping a week because it is very important that I talk about Bearmageddon today. At this point I shouldn’t have to tell you about Ethan and Malachai Nicolle’s brilliant comic Axe Cop. If you aren’t familiar with it, you should fix that now. Anyway Ethan has teamed up with colorist Noah Maas and created a brand new comic that you need to see.

Bearmageddon has a slow build up. That’s a good thing. It sets up 20-something Joel and his slacker friends. They end up going to a protest and find themselves chained to trees. That’s when the shit hits the fan. An army of bears begins attacking everyone. The gore is pretty amazing. The comic is able to balance the violence with a surprising amount of humor. It is something I look forward to reading every week.

So why is it so important that I interrupt Hangover Thursday and talk about a web comic? Because yesterday’s update included the panel posted above. I’d say look closely, but the loud mouthed character is pretty much calling attention to himself. Months ago Ethan was looking for ways to earn some additional money and he had the amazing idea to offer up cameos to his readers. I asked to be in the background somewhere and drinking while all the carnage was happening. I think it turned out pretty incredible. Hellz Yeah! Hellz Yeah, indeed!
