RIP Ray Harryhausen

Visual effect legend Ray Harryhausen passed away yesterday at the age of 92.  Known for his use of stop motion animation Harryhausen worked in movies for over 40 years.  Inspired by the effects on King Kong Ray went on to work on all sorts of amazing creatures from skeletons to giant sea monsters.  In 1949 he got to work on a great ape of his own with the film Mighty Joe Young.  Mighty Joe Young is one of my favorite movies; I even prefer it over King Kong.

Turner Classic Movies created a small “Remembering Harryhausen” video, you can see that above.  Thank you Ray.  Thank you for every sea monster, for every giant scorpion, for everything (even that clockwork owl that drove me into insane nerd rage as a child).
