Lá Fhéile Pádraig and Hockey...Oh and 200

Welcome to the 200th post on That F'ing Monkey! That's right folks Ken has been at this for 33.33 (repeating of course) weeks. Let's all congratulate him for starting the Comics Games and Booze discussion and hope that it keeps on rolling along.

Okay, on to my post. That strange phrase in the title is Irish Gaelic for St. Patrick's Day (pronounced - La ale-lah pwad-rig). For some odd reason every year the NHL decides that this is the holiday that is most synonymous with the sport of Hockey.

Now I get the drinking and fighting parallels, but it is still a really strange association to make. It is well documented that we here at That F'ing Monkey loves us some hockey and we loves us some drinking. However I would never buy or wear a Tampa Bay Lighting St. Patrick's Day shirt or jersey.

Because Tampa is not what you think of when you think St. Pat's, also because the Lighting are not "old time hockey".

Now perhaps if I lived in Boston or Chicago then I would maybe pick up a Bruins or Blackhawks green shirt, but honestly those are the only ones that should even consider having special Pat's gear.

So yeah, it is a weird yearly thing that always leaves me scratching my head in confusion and wondering why. Perhaps you could tell me. As always Let Your F'ing Voice Be Heard!

  1. That video...wow.
I just got the new NHL catalogue in the mail yesterday and it is full of their St. Pat's stuff. The most absurd is the wood sign that will proclaim your favorite team as the "pride of Ireland."
